Nameplate: rectangular printed label, gray ink, glass cover and a brass frame: CONRAD GRAF/ kaiserl: kön: Hof-Fortepianomacher/in WIEN/ nächst der Carls-Kirche im Mondschein No. 102

Stenciled on the soundboard in pencil: *OPUS*/1389/ A/ Wien/ CONR. GRAF

The book-matched pyramid mahogany veneered cabinet rests on three, column-like legs. The front legs are connected by a stretcher carrying the lyre and four pedals. The cabinet is elegant and free of ormolu. The cheeks of the cabinet curve inward toward the player.

There are four pedals: keyboard shift, bassoon, moderator and damper lift. The original moderator is in excellent condition.

The hammers and hammer leather are original. The original ivory and ebony keyboard is in excellent condition. The original dampers work perfectly after careful cleaning. The original strings were missing when I bought the piano. They have been replaced with Malcolm Rose, type C English iron wire, brass tenor strings and brass over iron bass strings made in my own shop. The wire gauge markings are clearly marked on the bridge. The instrument is tuned to A=430. The structure is in excellent condition with no warping.
